Having healthy-looking nails is a good indicator of how well you take care of yourself. There are plenty of ways on how you can make sure that your nails always look good. Here are a couple of things that you can do.
1. First, check your diet. Your nails get the nutrients they need to be healthy from the food that you eat. By eating a balanced diet, you would be able to get all the nutrients that your body, including your nails, needs to grow properly and stay healthy.
2. You should also moisturize your nails and hands often using a lotion that is not alcohol-based. Every time your hands start feeling dry, such as after taking a bath or after washing your hands, apply a good amount of lotion to moisturize them. Use a little more and rub it into your nails and cuticles, allowing them to absorb the lotion well.
3. Also make sure that your nails are always smooth and have clean edges. Using clippers, clip off jagged edges and trim your nails evenly. You can also use a soft emery board to keep edges clean. Move it only in one direction in long smooth movements, rather than back and forth which can make the edges even more jagged.
4. If you want to wear polish, avoid those which have strong chemicals such as formaldehyde. There are plenty of nail polish products that are available today which actually come with nutrients and are made with non-harmful chemicals; try to buy these. After removing polish, do not forget to moisturize, as most polish removers tend to dry the nails and skin.
